Entre chien et loup is a french expression describing the time of day, either in the morning or evening, when the light is such that one would not be able to distinguish a dog from a wolf. The dog symbolizes the day, bringing light to a new beginning, while the wolf symbolizes the night, representing the darkness that can engulf. It is the line between the familiar and the unknown, the uncertain threshold between hope and fear.

These, my favorite parts of the day. When I watch the horizon dim as the sun sets from my bedroom window, I feel secure in the coming of a new day yet, unsure of what it will bring. And, as it comes and the sun rises, its rays carressing the waking sky, all fears are replaced with hope.
